Akimine Kamijyo ???? is the penname of the author and artist of Samurai Deeper Kyo, born September 13, 1975. According to Kamijyo, his parents wanted to name him Akimine, but later changed their minds, but he took up the name as his nome de plume as a manga ka. Kamijyo worked for Rumiko Takahashi as an assistant for two months. Samurai Deeper Kyo is his first manga.

Kamijyo was known among his staff to often skip lunch in order to keep working on the manga. Kamijyo dislikes asking anyone for creative advice about his manga; the only time he ever felt unsure of what he was doing and needed help was when he was designing Yukimura, who in real life was rather ugly. Kamijyo was so distressed about Yukimura's first appearence in the manga that he even called his sister.
