Yuya was once a normal bounty hunter with a mission: to seek out the man with the cross shaped scar on his back, find him, and kill him. For he is the one that once killed her brother, Shiina Nozomu. Yuya was actually adopted by Nozomu at a very young age, although this fact is unclear to her early on in the series it is not until later on, when a Taihaku, one of the Goyousei? tells her she is adopted, that she becomes aware of this fact. She first meets Kyoshiro who she seems to find dumbfounded, but later find out that Kyoshiro inhabited Demon Eyes Kyo in his body, eager to gain the bounty for his head she follows Kyo, later developing a deep romantic love for him.
