Cats, dogs, birds and other animals often gravitate towards Muramasa. One particular creature that was always by Muramasa's side is a bird which he named Ruri. When Muramasa died, Ruri began perching by Kyo's side upon recognizing Muramasa's chi through the tenrou (Kyo's sword created by Muramasa). It's also been said that Ruri is a spiritual conduit to Muramasa who watches over Kyo.
